Today is the ninth death anniversary of Mohammad Hanif, the first elected mayor of Dhaka City Corporation and president of Dhaka City Awami League.On the occasion,  Mayor Mohammad Hanif Memorial Foundation, AL Dhaka city unit and socio-cultural organisations will organise special prayers. They will also hold discussions on the life of Hanif, also a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in separate messages paid rich tributes to Hanif's memory.Hanif joined politics in his student life under the tutelage of Bangabandhu. He also played a significant role in different democratic movementsHanif suffered splinter injuries while shielding AL President Sheikh Hasina during the 21 August, 2004, grenade attack on an AL rally on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital. He died of a cardiac arrest at a city hospital in 2006.Hanif's son incumbent Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon sought doa for his father, said a press release.
